What does it take to be a prime mover and catalyst in the power
generation industry ? As we’ve seen at KPCL, the responsibilities
are manifold. We need to keep pace with the latest in powergen technologies.
We need to ensure that our power stations operate fault-free and
at optimum efficiencies, against rated and scaled up capacities.
And we need to constantly address the areas of renovation, modernization
and uprating in a planned and phased manner.
The most advanced technology platforms were brought in to uprate
all the 10 units of the Sharavathi Generating Station from 89.1
MW to 103.5 MW, thereby adding 144MW capacity. Outdated rotary mechanical
governors have been replaced by state-of -the-art digital excitation
and governing systems offering better control, faster responses
and increased system stability.
The Units at Nagjhari Powerhouse too are being uprated from 135MW
to 150MW. Three Units have already been uprated, with three more
coming under our development plan for uprating. Additionally, a
comprehensive, time-bound plan has been finalised to modernise the
older Units in hydro stations. This plan envisages the setting up
of sophisticated equipment and controls at all stations.
